Playing with sand and water contributes to child’s cognitive development – Το παιχνίδι στην άμμο συμβάλει στη νοητική ανάπτυξη του παιδιού

Sand play is extremely popular in summertime. And, besides being fun, this is a great opportunity to teach your child elementary physics. By playing with sand and water, children learn basic concepts such as absorption, evaporation, dissolution etc. At the same time, they explore the properties of these materials and how these properties change when these materials get mixed, i.e. how sand becomes firm when mixed with water.   

So, while building sand castles and making sculptures of sand and water, take the chance and talk to your kid about texture (dry sand becoming firm), volume (water volume reduced when water absorbed), temperature changes, introduce new antonyms such as floating and sinking, solid and liquid, warm and cool, full and empty etc.

And most importantly, you do not need to spend lots of money for creative sand play!

Tools/materials

·       Various containers (buckets, cups etc.) at different sizes to carry and pour water in sand holes and castles

·         Shovels, sand trucks and molds

·         Sticks to draw lines, circles, letters, numbers etc in the sand

·         Stones, shells and respective sea plantation can contribute to decoration

·         Water guns and watering cans

·         Clear plastic bottles to make stone-sand layers

·         Cool hats, scarves, sunglasses can give life to your sand sculptures

Τα παιχνίδια με την άμμο είναι ιδιαίτερα δημοφιλή τώρα το καλοκαίρι. Εκτός από διασκεδαστικά, πρόκειται για παιχνίδια που σας δίνουν τη δυνατότητα να μάθετε στο παιδί σας εισαγωγικές γνώσεις φυσικής! Παίζοντας με το νερό και την άμμο, τα παιδιά μαθαίνουν βασικές έννοιες όπως απορρόφηση, εξάτμιση, διάλυση κτλ. Ταυτόχρονα, εξερευνούν τις ιδιότητες των στοιχείων αυτών, καθώς και πώς αυτές οι ιδιότητες μεταβάλονται όταν τα στοιχεία αυτά αναμειχθούν, πώς π.χ. η άμμος γίνεται σκληρή όταν αναμειχθεί με νερό.

Έτσι, καθώς χτίζετε κάστρα στην άμμο, εκμεταλλευτείτε την ευκαιρία να μιλήσετε στο παιδί σας για την υφή, τον όγκο, τις αλλαγές θερμοκρασίας, εισάγετε νέες λέξεις όπως στερεό/υγρό, ζεστό/κρύο, γεμάτο/άδειο, επιπλέω/βυθίζομαι  κτλ.

Το παιχνίδι με την άμμο δεν χρειάζεται λεφτά για να αποτελέσει πηγή μάθησης, αλλά καλή διάθεση και ευρηματικότητα!
